The Vaders got their first win in 4 games, but only by the skin of their teeth.

The game started well with chances at both ends, but the Vaders looked more dangerous in attack and stuck first with a delightful ball through by Allan Thomas to put in Ieuan Morris who delicately put the ball in the corner of the net.

It wasn’t long before the Vaders got another, and this one came from a set piece. A corner by Matthew James was hit short to Matthew Evans who turned his defender and hit the ball low and hard through 3 defenders and the goalkeeper to put the Vaders 2 up at the break.

The Vaders went into the second half on a high, and started the second half the stronger team once again. Difficult conditions on the day made passing very difficult and often the ball would hold up in the mud, this was clearly demonstrated by Rich Boydell who decided to leave the ball behind after taking on 2 opponents.

On the 60 minute mark changes were about to be made when Ieuan Morris was sent packing from the field after punching one of the Lamb and Flag defenders following an off the ball incident.

This changed things, and immediately Lamb and Flag smelt blood. The Vaders for some reason went into panic mode and with Matthew Evans and Tom Evans blowing out of their butts sean morris and Rob Boydell replaced them on the flanks.

It wasn’t long before the pressure told and suddenly the Vaders found themselves drawing 2-2. Lee Nick had to make way due to him coming out worse from a body-check and Rob Boydell dropped back to LB while the illusive Blackotelli came on left midfield.

It looked to be all over when the Vaders went for one last push up field through Titch and Gouldy and Gouldy twisted and turned in the box only to be mong-tackled by the left back giving the Vaders some hope with a Penalty. Up Stepped Titch who didn’t seem phased by the last penalty he took and missed and converted with some style. The ref immediately blew the final whistle giving the Vaders the victory which in all fairness was the right result on the day.

Massive cup game next week with possibly some key players missing in Lee Isaac and Tom Evans. Not sure if Ieuan will get a ban in time for the cup game – fingers crossed he doesn’t!!

Come on Vaders lets get through the next round and get into the semi’s!!

Garth Vader FC (3) vs (4) Nantymoel Whitestars

The Vaders were unlucky to lose what would have been a fair draw. The start of the match looked promising as Darren Davies put in a beautiful cross to be met with the head of Moomin Gould to get the Vaders 1-0 up within 2 minutes of the start.. Nantymoel were a little shell-shocked and continued to come under attack from the Vaders for the first 20 minutes or so. Having done the hard work numerous chances fell to Blackie who was missing just that one yard of pace otherwise the Vaders could have been up a few more.

After around 20 minutes Nantymoel capitalised on some defensive errors and brought the game level. Just when they thought they were getting on top Striker Ieuan Morris shut them up again with a wonderful strike from 18 yards.

Five minutes later Lee Isaac was taken down in the box and the Vaders had the chance to go 3-1 up at half time. Titch however struck the post and to add insult to this just before half time and after probably 15 minutes of constant pressure the game was back level with a nice strike from the unmarked right winger.

The second half was going to be an uphill struggle after midfielders Rich Boydell and Steve Gould had run themselves ragged in the first half and anything less would leave gaps in the middle of the park.

Soon the Vaders crumbled and had relatively no break from defending. Midfield and defence were pushed so far back that no opportunities were coming at the other end. The score was soon 4-2 after a fine strike from the edge of the box which put the Vaders heads down.

Just before the end Matthew James converted an inch perfect cross from Lee Isaac to earn a consolation goal. The Vaders will feel robbed but the lack of attendance from key players didn’t go unnoticed and certainly didn’t help with rotation in the midfield area.

Not since the beginning of the season have the Vaders had a full compliment and it looks to be continuing this way which is disappointing especially with a local derby next week against the Bush which is sure to be a kicking if nobody shows up.

The Vader’s Win 3rd on the Bounce, and manage a clean sheet
On the wettest day of the year The Vader’s had a late kick-off in order to watch the S.A Versus Wales game.

The field was very waterlogged but with both teams keen to play in this Cup game the fixture went ahead.

The first half was a hard fought battle and it took until the 35th minute for the first goal to hit the back of the net. Luckily it was the Vader’s who scored, a lovely cross field pass from Titch to set up a tap in for Striker Ieuan Morris.

Half time came and went and the Vaders were ready to go again in the second half. Hopefully the gamble on playing towards the Cymmer End in the first half would make it increasingly difficult for the Rhino’s to get the ball moving in the thick mud. This proved a worthwhile decision and The Vaders were soon 2-0 up with pretty much and identical goal to the first. Another assist from Midfielder/Striker Titch saw Ieuan have another tap in, albeit a little more difficult than the first one.

The Vader’s now had their tails up and Tom Evans made way for Lee Nicholas on 70 minutes. Just as Blackie was about to be swapped for Titch, he assisted in yet another goal for Ieuan Morris resulting in 3 assists and 3 goals for the strike force.
The partnership between these two is incredible and if kept fit will definitely make the difference to the Vader’s season this year.

There wasn’t a bad performance from anyone on the field yesterday and had it not been for Scott Sainsburys excellent performance at centre half there were many candidates up for man of the match. On a normal day it could have been Christiano “the penis” Powys, Titch, Ieuan to name a few.

With about 10 minutes to go a clearance from the back via Lee Nicholas saw an inch perfect cross (more by luck than design) from Rob Boydell into the awaiting Stephen “Moomin, Sonia” Gould who put in a perfect header past the goalkeeper. The ball seemed to take an age to get past the goalkeeper, but eventually crossed the line to take the Vader’s to 4-0.

In the dying minutes and under the cosh, Christiano “the penis” Powys took down and attacker to put a doubt on the clean sheet. Step up the most ill looking James Jones you’ve ever seen and saves the penalty with some ease.

The Vader’s progress to the next round and remain unbeaten in the league and cup so far this season.

Garth Vader FC (4) vs (3) Coity FC

So into the second game of the season and off the back of a win against Llantwit Lions The Vader’s donned their new battle uniforms and took to the field. Coity, a new team to the league looked very keen with their warm-ups and 18 players on hand.

So, from the off, The Vader’s looked the stronger team with plenty of battles going on all over the park. Winger Lee Isaac was playing some impressive 1-2’s with Richard Boydell and Stephen Gould and taking it around the smelly left back every time he had the ball. It was one of these instances that lead to the first goal, with a delightful ball put through to Lee, and one on one with the keeper he was sure to score, the keeper decided to pull him down in the box. Step up Titch who converted with some style. 1-0 Vaders.

Within minutes another break starting in midfield Striker Ieuan Morris found himself alone in front of goal and a shot from outside the box saw the ball under the keeper and in the net.

The Vaders added a third via a cross/shot from Defender Matthew “cock of the week” Evans and found Titch’s head and into the net. Within 15 minutes the Vaders were 3-0 up and cruising. This looked to be a battering for Coity in the Vaderdrome, but as usual The Vader’s then took to sitting back a bit and paid the price twice before the half time whistle due to two poor clearances.

So 3-2 at the break and this match wasn’t over by a long shot. The Vader’s needed the next goal. 20 minutes into the second half changes were made, Rob Boydell for Matthew Evans at left back, Ben Poole for Tom Evans on the left mid and Blackie For Lee Isaac with Titch moving out to the right hand side. This proved effective as the Vader’s immediately went 4-2 up which marked a hat-trick for Striker Titch. Coity looked deflated but pushed 10 men into the Vaders half and came away with a lucky goal.

The Vader’s were now under the cosh and had to defend for the remaining 10 minutes, but managed to see out the game as victors.

Garth Vader FC (3) vs (2) Llantwit Major Lions

The first game of the 2011/2012 season gave the Vaders their first 3 points. Llantwit Lions turning up ½ hour late nearly saw Mario “baggio” the ref call off the game, but with some encouragement the game was allowed to continue.

Llantwit with only 10 men should have proven no problem for the Vaders, and in the first half this was the case with the Vaders scoring 2 through Striker Ieuan Morris.

A further goal could have been added by Jimbob but a straight down the middle approach didn’t work for him and the keeper saved the penalty, only to Jimbobs amusement as he scurried back to his own net.

At half time the only sub came on for winger Lee Isaac (hamstring) and the Vader’s went to work once more. The Lions had more to them in this second half and the Vader’s seemed to get complacent. A stunning third goal by midfielder Gouldy saw the Vaders put some daylight between themselves and the Lions, however moments later the Lions had a goal to celebrate. This was closely followed by another goal which put the Vaders in a precarious position. The Lions were controlling the game and a defeat to 10 men would have bee n an embarrassment.

The Vaders managed to see out the match to a 3-2 victory, but it was a close one in the end and lessons should have been learned about being too cocky when leading the match.

Something else to note – Never let Ted Danson take your throw ins – 3 foul throws within 10 minutes, beating Leigh “K-swiss wearing mother fucker” James’s record
