Vader’s gain promotion
July 10th, 2012 // League News,Team News // Richard Boydell
Despite finishing 6th in the First Division during the 2011/12 season, league changes and new team entries has meant Garth Vader FC have been promoted to the Bridgend District Sunday League Premier Division, along with Red Cow, Saint Patrick’s Rovers, Nantymoel Whitestars, Llantwit Major Lions and Bush Kangaroos.
The news has come with mixed emotions, with many fearing the longer distances to travel to away games, but the Vaders will welcome the increase in the level of football and competition. Our aim will be to find our feet and battle it out with our fellow promoted clubs and get a respectable position, before progressing on in following seasons.
A nice Cup run and a Winners medal would be nice to replace the Runners Up medal of last season.

Cracking game against a bunch of tits…6-0 up at half time and a nail in the coffin by Ieuan Morris late in the second half.
Not a bad performance from anyone on the park.
Man of the Match: Steve Boydell
Cock of the Week: Robert Boydell
Quote of the Day: Haven’t put a quote of the day in for a while but Hambone as ususal come up with a classic.
Apparently someone who plays for Caerau has a long throw like that guy in their team, skinny boy….think he goes out with Allan Harris’s daughter??? (looks of confusion from Ieuan Morris) ha ha
Lamb & Flag Rangers (2) vs (2) Garth Vader FC

Vaders win 5-4 on penalties
Match stats:

Lady Luck was with the Vaders on Sunday the 4th December as they stumbled past Lamb and Flag into the cup final.
The Vaders started well enough in what was always going to be a scrappy match. The huge downhill in the first half helped the Vaders somewhat, and found themselves 1-0 up with 20 minutes gone thanks to a stunning free kick from Scott “Gazza” Sainsbury fomr 30 yards.
The Vaders had a couple of close calls with the Penis Powys clearing the ball with his mighty length on the 30 minute mark after Hambone had run past the ball he was trying to clear.
Soon after a 40 yard howitzer from Liam Barry put the Vaders 2-0 up in what was possibly the best amateur football goal ever seen. The match was far from over when the Vaders came in for half time.
As soon as the second half kicked off it was down to business for Lamb and Flag and they pulled one back within minutes of kickoff.
Lee Nich switched with Tom Evans as he took up his left wing, and leaving Darren back in his left back position.
Smelling that the Vaders were now firmly on the back foot it wasn’t long before the equalizer was scored putting the Vaders heads down, especially Gazza Sainsbury as he winged like a big girl for 20 minutes. He was right though; the Vaders were giving the ball away too easily and putting themselves under pressure for no reason.
Another change came with Jammy making way for Allan “Amazon” Thomas at right back.
5 minutes before the end and with Rob and Blackie warming up ready for extra time the Lamb and Flag made it 3-2 with a long range effort, something that looked to be the order of the day. As usual Titch went for the quick kickoff and take on everyone approach which didn’t work as usual, but did get the Vaders up the pitch where Steve Boydell struck a cross come shot towards the goal. This was deflected off the defender and into his own net giving the Vaders a life-line.
So into extra time and Rob Boydell Darren Davies, with Evans dropping into LB and Gazza into centre half. The Vaders were downhill again but showed no sign of scoring and put themselves under pressure once more when the whistle went for half time.
So 30 mins extra time and still no winner – Penalties it is then!!!
Penalty takers – Steve Boydell, Allan Thomas, Liam Barry, Rich Boydell and Finally Titch.
A good line up, and with the Lamb and Flag missing their 3rd Penalty thanks to a stunning save from Hambone the pressure was on. Step up Rich Boydell who slotted his Penalty leaving Titch with the pressure penalty which he slotted with style in the bottom right corner.
So the Vaders progress to the final and hopefully a big match on the Brewery Field.
The Vaders draw the Roid Cow in the final who are 1 a piece in league wins so it’s all down to the days performance.
Man of the Match: Scott Sainsbury
Cock of the Week: Allan Thomas (Not sure why but somebody had to have it)
