The Vader’s first game was never going to be a pretty one, and against good opposition it was tough to watch. From kickoff the Vader’s found it difficult to keep hold of the ball with Coedely playing all the football and the Vader’s chasing shadows.
The first goal didn’t take long to come and the Vader’s couldn’t put anything together going the other way meaning our starting front two had to drop in to even touch the ball. After conceding a few goals from lobs over our 6ft+ keeper it was clear it wasn’t going to be a good first outing for the team.
Rolling subs along with the fast surface and playing a team who not only a league above but much fitter more goals were on the cards and by half time the Vader’s were 5-0 down.
A tough team talk at half time from our Coach Steve saw the Vader’s start the second half a lot better. Moving the teams eating champion “the hambone” into centre midfield to replace the K-Swiss wearing Berkamp wannabe to play alongside Scott Sainsbury who had been running everywhere in the first half helped take control of the midfield a bit better.
Things picked up for Jimbo in goals too and every chance Coedely had was punched, kicked or somehow cleared, some cracking saves made too, which went some way to making up for the lobs in the first half.
Elvis held the back four together well and challenged for everything that came his way.
A chance mid way through the second half when both Richard Boydell and Titch both hit the post only bolstered the confidence going forward and some chances were starting to come and gaps were being found in the Coedely defence.
A cameo role from the coach pushed the pickled egg sandwich man Hambone back into left back, it was a good thing that he was a bit quicker on the pitch than he was removing the post match picked egg from its jar.
It was a shock to most when the subbed chubby Torres came back on for another run-out and put Titch in on goal to get the Garth Vader’s first goal this season, something both Titch and Blackie will go on about all season no doubt.
5-1 down and nearing the end a penalty was given and the Coedely goalkeeper the Monk was only too happy to put it right in the corner leaving Jimbo with no chance.
All in all a poor performance from the Vader’s but this was never going to be an easy first match.
