The Vader’s smash a hole in the Bush

The local derby was in doubt in training but Coach Boydell entered the Vaderdrome at no later than 8am when the light was just coming over the Caerau mountains to complete an early pitch inspection. The going was soft but nothing short of a swimming pool for a pitch was going to stop this match going ahead.

The Bush Kangaroos, a bitter rival of the Vaders entered the Vaderdrome with a degree of cockiness due to their underserved win in their home fixture.

Bang on 11am the rain set in for what was to be an end to end match with both teams threatening early on. The Bush were trying to play passing football with the Vaders recognising that this was no time for making it look pretty, but time to dig out a win no matter how ugly.

The Bush created some early chances and the midfield and defence were being pushed back regularly. Any attempt to go into a tackle early was being thwarted by the man on the ball who only had to pull the ball back only for the defending team to look a fool.

On the half hour mark an undeterred Garth team pushed forward to be rewarded with their first goal thanks to Matthew “Titch” James.
The Vaders had been here before and calm was needed to see out the first half which saw captain cwtch booked for using the C word a few times.

The Vaders went into half time with the 1-0 lead intact and there was degree of confidence about the second half with the most of the mud being in the Bush’s attacking end.

It didn’t take long for Titch to bag his second goal with everyone shouting for the ball, Titch turned unexpectedly and hit the top corner of the net from a difficult angle.

With the Bush Kangaroos heads down the Vaders cried for more….and more they got. Around the 60 minute mark Ieuan Morris was rewarded for his efforts with a goal from a stunning free kick from 30 yards out.

The Vaders were now flying and it only took another 10 minutes for super sub Scott “Gascoine” Sainsbury to put a hole through the Bush’s net with a 20 yard effort after Ieuan Morris had held the ball up.

With the win in the bag changes were made with Tom Evans coming on and Blackie replacing Titch.

The Tom Evans switch nearly proved fatal for keeper Jimbob’s clean sheet when he gave away a late penalty and told Coxy to F**K off! He saw straight red and kicked the door in temper has he threw his toys out and came for an early shower.

A confidence builder for the Vaders and a well deserved win! Keep on Trooping!!
